Ente di Decolonizzazione
Borgo Rizza

Ente di decolonizzazione: Borgo Rizza is a project by DAAR – Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti – which took the form of an itinerant art installation, exploring the possibility of critical reuse and subversion of fascist colonial architecture. Starting from the deconstruction and recomposition of the facade of the Entity of Colonization of the Sicilian Latifundia built in 1940 in Borgo Rizza (Siracusa), the installation is composed of several modules/sittings forming the platform for an open discursive space where the public is invited to critically reconsider the social, political, and economic legacy of fascist and colonial heritage, and to collectively image new common uses for it. Ente di decolonizzazione: Borgo Rizza was presented and activated in several venues: Museo Madre, Naples; 12th Berlin Biennale (2022); La Loge, Brussels; Albissola Marina; Museo delle Civiltà, Rome; 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (where DAAR was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Participation, 2023). The project was supported by the Italian Council (10th Edition, 2021), program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity for the Italian Ministry of Culture.
